21st December:

CHRISTMAS UPDATE
Ireland Lights Up: Blackrock GAA have signed up to champion the 'Ireland Lights Up' initiative for 2023. The ‘Ireland Lights Up’ initiative returns in January 2023, in partnership, RTE’s Operation Transformation, and Get Ireland Walking. GAA clubs across the 32 counties will once more ensure ‘Ireland Lights Up’ by turning on their floodlights and hosting community walking groups during the eight-week broadcast period of the hit RTÉ show. The first date for Blackrock to host ‘Ireland Lights Up’ 2023 is Thursday, January 12th at 7.30pm. The aim is to make exercise more accessible on the dark winter nights and to offer local communities an opportunity to get together and socialise in a healthy way. The more participants we have the better, we will remind you all again in the New Year! Club participant numbers will be given to RTÉ's Operation Transformation team each week and the accumulative numbers will be aired live on the show the following Wednesday.

Lotto: Blackrock GAA will have their Monster Lotto Draw on Thursday 22nd December in the Pavilion. 10 extra chances to win €20 Lucky Dip. Over €9,500 has been given out in special draws and lucky dips this year. Your continued support is vital and sincerely much appreciated.

Development: As per our last update, quotations were submitted to the Department and they then requested amendments to the quotations to fulfil their requirements under the programme. These were re-submitted and we are now awaiting their Formal Approval, as soon as is received we will provide you with a further update. We still aim to commence the All Weather Surface in March 2023 – this is still on track to happen at this time.

Long Puck: The Long Puck will be held on 1st January 2023, further details around times etc. will follow.
From Blackrock GAA to all of our players, management teams, members, supporters and the local communities of Kilfinane and Ardpatrick, we wish you a very happy Christmas and a prosperous 2023. Sincere thanks for your continued support

21st September

Senior hurling, in a year when we beat Kilmallock in the South Championship final for 2021, and started well in the league, we find ourselves relegated to Premier Intermediate for 2023.  It was an unfortunate championship where we lost amatch by 2 points, losing a match by one point and drawing one.  It was a close championship and the rub of the green was absent all year. Captain  Dylan Dawson, and the panel of players put in a huge effort in training and commitment, with the management of Damien Lee, Coach Ollie Moran, Selectors TG Ryan, Brendan O’Brien and S&C Evan Mulcahy.

Junior A hurling, in our first year promoted we lost a lot of players to retirement and to the Senior team early in the year. Every team we played it was their first team, and we struggled to match up with some very good teams, losing to Ballybricken Bohermore on Sunday 18th. Captain Barry O’Shaughnessy, and the panel of players, management James O’Doherty, Jimmy Croker, Pat McGrath and Richie Fitzgerald put in a huge effort in trying to build the panel up.

We are now in a relegation semi final playoff, we would hope to see all our supporters there, we have young players coming through and we want them playing at the highest standard we can.

It is challenging having two teams in competitive action but we are looking forward to the challenge in 2023. Please support the players and management. It has been a difficult few weeks. The AGM in November will be the facility for any one who would like to get involved.

The U17’s lost to Dromin Athlacca on Saturday 17th on a score line of 5 05 to 2 17, best of luck to the U13’s in the county final on Wednesday 21st, the U16 Camogie team play their semifinal also on Wednesday night , best of luck.

The U21’s who lost the County semi final last year will be in championship action in early October.

Lotto , no winner 14th Sept, numbers drawn were 5 10 16 30. The €40 lucky dip winner is Ted O’Sullivan, Promotor Chrissie O’Sullivan, €20 lucky dip winners; Shane Roche, Promotor Carmel Murphy, Laura Costello, Promotor Carmel Murphy, David Gleeson, Promotor Breda Walsh, David Crowe, Promotor Brendan O’Brien. Jackpot remains at €13,000 22nd Sept.

15th September

It has not been the easiest of weeks in the club. The Senior hurlers have lost to Kildimo Pallaskenry and we are relegated to Premier Intermediate grade for 2023.  We have Monaleen to play next Saturday the 17th at 5pm in Ballyagran but we cannot get enough points to stay Senior.  Thanks to Captain Dylan Dawson and all his team and panel, Manager Damien Lee, TG Ryan and Brendan O’Brien and trainer Ollie Moran and Strength and Conditioning Coach Evan Mulcahy, Physio John O’Donnell and first aid Mike Duggan.

The team and management have worked and trained very hard this year and a huge commitment has been put in by everyone.  I hope our supporters and club members respect the effort put in and give them all space to get over the disappointment of how the year has gone.

The Junior hurlers play Ballybricken Bohermore next Sunday 18th in Hospital at  1pm but like the Seniors we cannot get enough points to avoid a playoff. We will be in a relegation semifinal and will know next week who we will be playing.  Thanks to Captain Barry O’Shaughnessy and his team and panel, Manager James O’Doherty, Jimmy Croker, Pat McGrath, Richie Fitzgerald, first aid Mags Brazzill Buckley.
