Huge congratulations to the 15 nominated Limerick hurlers for the All Stars for 2021 and congratulations to the 12 who received the awards. The remaining three are All Stars to us also.
 
There was no winner of the jackpot on Thursday the 9th December after the AGM.

If the jackpot does not go on the 15th then there will be extra prizes from the second jackpot given out to acknowledge and thank everyone who has supported the lotto.

December 1st

Sadly the journey for our U21’s has come to an end, losing the County U21A to neighbours Coshlea Gaels on a score line of 0 09 to 2 0.  In a bitterly cold Knocklong our lads fought hard but it wasn’t to be.  Well done to Mikey Duggan Captain and the team and management of Richie McCarthy, Paudie Leahy, Pat Heffernan Jnr, Niall Moloney and Brid Herbert S&C.

These are a lovely bunch of lads and we wish them well. However a lot of them are on the Junior b panel and will be training over the winter to prepare for the Munster Junior B competition to be held in Killeedy in January or February.

So we finish competitive action for 2021 and we sign of with a very successful year for the club.

November 24th

Sunday 21st was a great day for the club.  The junior beaks won the county final v Bruff in Kilmallock on a scoreline of 0-16 to 0-11.  A very strong second half display saw us come from 0-4 to 0-8 half time score, with powerful and committed displays from all corners of the field. Well done to Captain Dave O Flaherty and his team and the the management team of Tim O Sullivan, James O Doherty, Pat McGrath, Ken Douglas, and Brid Herbert – Fitness coach.  There was great excitement and we look forward to Andrew O Gormans DVD with the wonderful tones of Seoirse Bulfin on commentary.  Will be a wonderful Christmas present.

There are 3 motions to be discussed on the night. The AGM is on the 1st December in the Parish Hall in Ardpatrick at 7pm.

If the lotto jackpot is not won on 24th November there will be bonus prizes on the lotto on the 1st December to be held in the hall in Ardpatrick after the AGM.

It is a great time to be involved with Blackrock GAA with several teams at the business end of the year.  However we are still in the middle of a pandemic and we are striving to keep our community and families as safe as possible. November 17th

Well done to our super u21 hurlers and management. Great win over Monaleen in the County U21 A  Hurling Championship. Winning 1:21 to 1:14 after extra time.

Fantastic result for the Junior B hurlers beating Cappamore in the County Semi final after extra time. It was 1-09 to 2-07 at half time, and a heart stopping second half saw us down 1,  1-13 to 2-11 at the second water break. We played well in the last 15 min with 14 men, to go 3 up, as full time approached but It was 1-18 to 2-15 at full time after a late Cappamore flurry. In extra time it was 1-19 to 2-16 but in the second half of extra time we pulled ahead to score 4 points to Cappamore’s 1 to win by 3 points. Final score of 1-23 to 2-17. We now play Bruff in the final, a repeat of the South final.

It was a quiet week for our supporters as we had no matches this week but our teams and management are training very hard for the upcoming matches.

The U21’s play Kildimo Pallaskenry on Wednesday night the 10th at 8pm in Knocklong. And the Junior B’s play Cappamore in the county semifinal on Saturday in Knocklong at 3pm.

The AGM will be held on Wednesday 1st December at 7pm in the Hall in Ardpatrick. The nomination papers have been distributed via Whats app.  And if you are not on Whats app your nomination papers will be posted. If you are a member and have not received your nomination papers please contact Carmel.

November 3rd

As we head into November our hurlers are still going well.  In the last week our Junior B’s and U21’s had good wins over Kidimo Pallaskenry and Newcastle West respectively.

On the 26th under lights in Rathkeale the U21’s had a great win over Newcastlewest in a fine game of hurling winning 1-15 to 1-14.  A very close match we fought hard to get the better of Newcastlewest.  The team was Mikey Duggan, Captain, Mike John O Dwyer, Michael Brazill Carroll, Mark Duggan, Niall Fitzgerald, Daithi Heffernan, Brian Hennessy, Sean O’Neill, Aidan Gilligan, Jimmy Quilty, Ciaran Considine, Killian Aherne, Danny Moloney, Colm O’Keeffe, Gavin Ryan, Sean O Sullivan, Robbie O Keeffe, James Quinn, Gearoid Lawlor, Mattie Watson.  The Management team is Paudie Leahy, Richie McCarthy, Pat Heffernan Jnr, Niall Moloney. S&C Brid Herbert.

On Saturday 30th the Junior B’s took on Kildimo Pallaskenry in the County Quarter final in Caherdavin. This match went to extra time and we won on a scoreline of 0-27 to 2-18.  We played strongly for most of the match with a poor spell in the second half before the water break but we fought hard to come back to a draw at full time and finished strongly in extra time.

The Blackrock Effin Junior Camogie team played Ballybrown on 31st in Ahane, winning the A Plate final on a score line of 5 14 to 1 11. Well done to all, great result.

October 27th

The Junior B team unfortunately lost the South final to Bruff 1-12 to 1-10. We however continue into the County series and play Kildimo Pallaskenry on Saturday 30th at 2pm in Feenagh.  Best of luck to Dave Flaherty and the team and management.

The U17’s won the County shield by beating Croom 1-12 to 2-08. Congrats to all involved.

October 20th

The Junior B’s continue on their winning ways beating Bruree 0-19 to 0-11 in the South Championship semi final. The final is next weekend but we don’t have a fixture yet. We will be playing Bruff in the South final .

The U21’s start championship v Newcastlewest next weekend also.  Again we are waiting on a venue etc. the fixture appears to be Sunday 24th.

A new set of jerseys was presented to the club recently by Tom and Carmel Murphy mITw LTD. 

Well done to Scoil Pol girls and boys who were successful in the first round of their school competions in camogie and hurling.

October 13th

The Junior B’s completed the league section of the South Championship with a 100% success, beating Glenroe on Saturday on a score line of 4 18 to 0 08.  So we now play Bruree in the South Semi Final, we believe this match is the coming weekend but we have no fixture as yet.

The South Senior Final was fixed for next weekend V Kilmallock but we don’t expect it to go ahead this weekend, keep an eye on the papers and social media re fixtures.

The U21’s are out in Championship v Newcastlewest in the next few weeks.

The U17’s beat St Kierans in the County Shield Semi final on Sunday on a score line of 4 12 to 0 09.  They now play Croom in the final, tbc.

The u7’s finished their year on Sunday with a match v their parents and goodies and a medal presentation.  There were lots of happy boys and girls looking forward already to 2022.

October 6th

It was a good weekend for the club, with wins for the Senior hurlers and the Junior B’s.

The Senior hurlers beat Monaleen to retain Senior status for 2022. Well done to the team captained by Kevin Palmer and Paudie Leahy and managed by Aidan Fitzgerald and Jimmy Quilty. The score was 0-20 to 0-18.  The Senior hurlers year is over and we are looking forward to 2022 already.

The junior b’s played Camogue Rovers in the league section of the South Junior B championship, winning on a score line of 4-18 to 0-16. Great result.

We now top the table with 6 points from 3 matches, with only Glenroe left to play next Sunday in Kilfinane at 5pm.

The Junior B’s play Knockainy in round 3 of the South Championship, in Kilfinane on Thursday 23rd at 6.30.

The U21 start championship Oct 24th V Newcastlewest.

September 15th

A great win for the Blackrock Senior hurlers V Garryspillane on Sunday on a score line of 1-19 to 1-16. It was a close match and congratulations to Paudie Leahy and Kevin Palmer joint Captains and the team and management. Best wishes to Adrian Cooke who suffered a head injury in the first half which caused a delay of 30 minutes waiting for the ambulance to take him to UHL for review. Many thanks to the Ref and his officials, and the Gaelic Ground officials for their management of the injury and we are very grateful to the Garryspillane team and management for their cooperation with this unfortunate delay.

The Junior B’s had a winning start to their championship on Thursday last beating Effin on a scoreline of 1-24 to 2-11 in Effin. Next up is Knockainy on Thursday 23rd in Kilfinane.
Hard luck to the u14 girls who lost to Patrickswell and the u13 boys who lost to Ballybricken Bohermore in their finals this week, in close fought matches. Well done to all involved

September 1st

The celebrations continue as the Liam McCarthy settles into life in Limerick.  Well done to all the team, management, county bord and a special mention to the sports reporters who have regaled us all with pages of words about how excellent our team were in the All Ireland.  Well done to Hugh Murphy PRO who produced a fine programme. 

Now life and sport return to normal with the Senior hurlers playing South Liberties on Thursday 2nd September in the Gaelic Grounds at 7.30.  There will be limited tickets available for the match, see facebook for details, we don’t have them yet.

The very best of luck to the Limerick Senior hurlers V Cork in the 2021 All Ireland final on Sunday next 22nd August. August 4th

This week two of our finest young hurlers played for Limerick. Jimmy Quilty captained the U20’s from mid field on Wednesday night where they lost by 2 points to Cork. It was very close at the end and we look forward to next year when Jimmy will still be U20.

On Tuesday night Killian Ahern was centre forward for the U17’s also v Cork. Cork won this match but our players fought to the end.

On Thursday last we played Ballybrown in the Semi Final of the All County league. In a wet and cold night we fought hard but lost on a scoreline of 3-07 to 0-26. 

The Championship will commence when the intercounty is finished.

July 21st

This week we had a fantastic win over Garryspillane in the South section of the All County League on Tuesday 13th July, winning on a score line of 2-15 to 0-16. We are now awaiting the result of Kilmallock V Garryspillane to see if we are in the South final or a play off for the South final.

This week is a new chapter for one of our young hurlers. Jimmy Quilty jnr captains the Limerick U20’s V Clare and hopefully by the time these notes are read we will have beaten Clare. We wish Jimmy and his team mates and management the very best of luck on Monday night 19th July.  It will be a proud night for the Quilty and O Sullivan families in the 2 parishes. Luimneach abu

The Limerick Senior hurlers are Munster Champions for the third year in a row. In a fantastic display Tipperary were beaten in Cork on Sunday 18th.  Well done to John Kiely,  his super players and management team and back room team. 

Well done to the Limerick Junior ladies footballers and commiserations to the Limerick Senior Camogie team beaten by Wexford in a last minute penalty., also to the Limerick u16 team beaten by Cork during the week.

The Junior b’s beat Bruff in the All county league on a scoreline 1-22 to 1-18.

The junior B’s were beaten by Staker Wallace on Sunday in the All county league, 7 points to 15. Next up is Camogue Rovers next weekend. The fixture date is not confirmed, keep an eye on face book for updates.

A first for Blackrock GAA this week with an outdoor AGM, it was nice to discuss matters face to face but it was cold, hopefully we can soon all meet indoors. Maura Quane has returned to the top table as the new treasurer, Fintan Leahy continues as Chairman, Seoirse Bulfin as Vice Chairman and Carmel Murphy as Secretary. All other officers were also returned unopposed and John Walsh was thanked for his years of service as Treasurer, John has stepped down since the nomination papers were returned.

April 21st

The club was very saddened this week with the death of Tommy Carroll, former club player, underage coach and supporter after a short illness. Pre deceased by his brother John we extend our deepest sympathies to his partner Siobhan, his children Sean and Sophie, his parents Alice and Tommy Snr, his sisters Mary and Aine and brother Edwin and their families, his parents in law and many relations and friends. There is an air of sadness around the town and the club, please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers.

Due to unforeseen circumstances there will be no lotto this week and we will start back on 28th April. Weather permitting we will be holding an outdoor AGM that week. Please keep note on all forms of media to get up to date information. There will be limited notice given as it is weather dependant.

Due to level 5 restrictions the lotto is currently suspended. However as soon as we have some easing of restrictions we will recommence the lotto

Congratulations to the Limerick Senior hurling team and management on the recent All Stars, Limerick received 9 All Stars and Gearoid Hegarty was awarded the Player of the year for 2020.  Special mention to Nickie Quaid from our neighbouring club Effin on winning the goalie All Star, and Bruffs Sean Finn on his 3 in a row All Stars. Well done to all our players hurling and football on their All Star nominations and to Amy Ryan on her football team of the year award.

As always John Kiely gave a fine interview and we look forward to the hurling in 2021, club and county.

It was a very productive and rewarding night last Thursday at the RTE sports awards 2020.  Congratulations to the Limerick Senior hurling team, winning the team of the year, John Kiely, winning Manager of the year and Oisin O’Callaghan, winning young sports person of the year.  We are delighted that Limerick has been shown in such a good light.  Well done to everyone involved.
